Good VibrationsScene Magazine | Festivals

Every time Good Vibrations comes to town we declare that the lineup could not get any better, and every year they come out with a new lineup that is always better than the previous offering. So basically, we know nothing. All we know is that the lineup for the festival at Gold Coast Parklands on February 21 is totally amazing, featuring Q-Tip, Fatboy Slim, The Presets, Deadmau5, The Pharcyde, Sam Sparro, Chromeo and many, many more.

It seems like 2009 is going to be yet another epic year of live music for South East Queensland. One of the first festivals to kick off this January is Hear & Now, ripping up the Brisbane Riverstage on January 25. We’re so impressed with the all-Aussie lineup that we nearly went out and got one of those lame Australian flag tattoos on our lower back: Pnau, Spiderbait, Regurgitator, The Herd, Grafton Primary, Van She Tech, Stafford Bros, Bluejuice, Kate Miller-Heidke and more will all be in attendance.

The Met has barely given us time to recover from New Years with their huge lineup of talent at Flamingo Nights this Friday January 9. European DJ Fedde Le Grand takes to the decks, as does label mate Funkerman along with Ida Corr, Camille Jones, Patric La Funk, Mc Gee, Pete Smith, Murray Brown, Nick Galea, Jason Rouse, Dope N Dusted and Mr Sparkles.

Freestylers have been rocking dancefloors for so many years now that they’re guaranteed to be in top form when head Freestyler Aston Harvey drops a DJ set this January 9 at the Great Northern in Byron Bay. The UK geezer will be joined by fellow Brit-turned-Byron resident Skool of Thought and Gravy & Ego.

Summer Tones is a sweet mini-festival happening at The Zoo on March 6. Technically that’s a few days after the end of summer, but with a lineup this good we’ll let that slide: Dan Deacon, High Places, The Ruby Suns, Beaches and Lawrence Arabia.

Metronomy have had a pretty amazing 18 months, metamorphosing from one Brighton electronica artist into a wild three-piece electro-garage outfit that has taken on festivals the world over. Make sure you don’t miss ‘em when they play Empire on January 16, alongside The Death Set, BMX, DZ, Teva, Lickers and Wolfgang DJs.

The Rapture wrote their song ‘No Sex for Ben’ about him, but that’s not the only reason Ben Rymer aka Ben Fat Trucker is famous. No way. He’s also famous for being Gucci Soundsystem and delivering something along the lines of a “no-wave pop-up disco dynasty”. See for yourself when Lick It brings him to Barsoma on January 31.

They might describe themselves rather strangely as an ‘International Feeling Posse’ but Hamburg electronica outfit D.I.M. are too cool to be hippies. With recent remixes including The Presets, The Faint, Chromeo, Junkie XL, Fischerspooner and Midnight Juggernauts, you know they’re going to drop it like it’s hot at The Monastery on January 22. Baby Gee, Noy, Killafornia, Luki and Danny T will be there too.

Music, arts and environmental festival Earth Freq has announced its full music and workshop lineup, taking place at Land Cruiser Mountain Park from February 13-15. Some of these acts include Andromeda, Maetrik, Talpa, Deadbeat, D-Sens, Noa Zoe, Wombat, Sensient, Trance Ducer, Tijuana Cartel, CC The Cat and way more.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
