SNAGGING THE BASS

By Scene Magazine

You might not recongise the name or the moniker just yet. But Michael Woods’ production/DJing moniker Out Of Office will be flooding dancefloors - with hits ‘Hands Up’ and ‘Break of Dawn’ - like a tsunami over the coming months.

Do you ever get complaints from the neighbours about the bass?

All the time - then I invite them in for a few beers and they seem not to worry so much after that!
We had better talk about that BANGING PHAT bass you employ, it sounds like it’s being pumped out of a cosmic sausage machine - I'm sure it was the sausage machine effect you were looking for?
The only kind of sausages I know are the ones you eat! Don’t you guys call them snags anyway!  I pretty much use a Casio keyboard and crank the bass knob all the way up!

Do you build tracks from the bassline up?

I pretty much start all my tracks with the beat and bass-line. This is the bit that takes the longest to nail in most of my productions. Once I'm happy with that I work up from there.

Things are really happening for you in the UK after 'Hands Up' smashed it. Has there been much response from this neck of the woods?

The response has been great from pretty much every part of the world. We managed to secure a release in every major territory and have had great support, not just with ‘Hands Up’ but with all of my Out Of Office productions. I have just secured a deal in Australia with the label Bimbo Rock. The next single is ‘Natural High’ featuring Inaya Day, which is a Michael Woods production.

Electro has had a very good run over here but you are really doing something different, just what are those special Out Of Office herbs and spices you bring to the party?

Bit of sage, sprinkle of cinnamon but definitely no garlic! I just try to keep my tunes as fresh as possible - sometimes it’s good to try and think about, not what's good now but what you think will sound good six months from now - that way I manage to keep on top of things.

Tell us a bit about the live show? Any special treats for Oz rump-shakers?
Well I try to mix it up pretty good - I like to have a basic idea of what I want to play but I pretty much change it as and when to suit the type of crowd. Sometimes I like to surprise the crowd by having my sister, Marcella (the vocalist for Out Of Office) do an un-announced impromptu performance of ‘Hands Up’, ‘Break of Dawn’ and ‘Insatiable’. The crowd always goes wild because they're not expecting it and Marcella always knows how to really work everybody up!

What have you got coming up release-wise?
I have the next Out Of Office track, which is coming out as Out Of Office vs The Original, ‘I Luv You Baby’ and I have another Out Of Office track waiting in the wings called ‘Insatiable’. I have also set up my own label called Diffused in the last couple of months. I am releasing and licensing a track under my own name Michael Woods, entitled ‘Natural High’, which is currently making some decent waves on the scene.

Out Of Office plays Monastery’s Pornstar IX Annual Party on December 12. Bass Kleph, Baby Gee and Danny T are also playing.
